CONSUMER DEBT COLLECTION

By far, consumer debt is the largest category of debt we collect. Debtors are individuals who have purchased services or goods primarily for personal or family use. These consumer accounts are placed with us via a number of sources. We deal directly with creditors as well as receiving referrals from other attorneys and collection agencies. Over the past several years, placements of consumer accounts via electronic networks have become a very significant source of business. This includes purchasing consumer debt via private brokers in the marketplace.

We also have the ability to forward accounts and judgments obtained in Louisiana to attorneys in other states due to our charter membership in the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA). NARCA is a trade organization of collection attorneys concentrating in debt collection. Special communications software is available for networking and monitoring of accounts referred to NARCA members.

Associated with this debt are strict state and federal laws as to the manner in which consumer debt is collected. Our firm maintains a detailed manual and also trains its collection staff continuously as the law in this area evolves. NARCA prides itself on providing annual educational seminars on recent developments in collection law. NARCA also lobbies vigorously in Washington on behalf of its members to assist in the passing of pro-creditor laws.

Our largest clients in this area include hospitals and other medical professionals rendering services to consumers. Other clients include national banks which issue credit cards and major local banks which lend to consumers.
